I suggest that you write immediately after waking, before checking any emails or messages.
This is when your mind will have consolidated the learning, cultivation and deconditioning of the previous days, and the writings that you produce immediately after waking will tend to cut clear to the bone of whatever has been on your mind.
Writing has the effect of consolidating and exporting these learnings so they are 'gone' from your mind and you can approach the new wake-cycle with a fresh set of synapses.
I then recommend a form of meditation. Sitting meditation can sometimes feel a little sticky in the morning but thankfully there's an enjoyable alternative called 'going for a walk'.
This will get your legs moving at a regular rhythm which will increase dopaminergic tone gradually.
You can text yourself while you walk if things are on your mind, getting a head start on the next round of deconditioning and cultivation, or you can just walk and enjoy your body and your surroundings.
Do not spend this time filling your brain with media or messages; this is export- and reinforcement-mode.
You will find it easier to sit and meditate when you return home due to the elevated tonic dopamine, but sitting meditation is not necessary unless you're pushing for a consolidation.
